A tag is a key-value pair that can be dynamically assigned to or removed from a metric or set of metrics without affecting the metric name.
For example, the tag #accountManager=Joe can be assigned to all metrics associated with accounts managed by Joe. If Joe's account assignments change, you can use the API to update which metrics receive the tag without modifying the underlying metric names.
Tags can be used to filter, group, and aggregate metrics.
Please note:
- If the specified tag already exists, its current metric assignments are replaced. The tag is removed from metrics that matched the previous search expression and assigned only to metrics matching the new search expression.
- Tag keys and values must not contain following characters: {. SPACE}
- Tagging changes may take up to 20 minutes to be applied to the relevant metrics.
