This article describes how to create a single metric tile (of number or gauge types) and includes the following:
Creating a new Dashboard single metric tile
- Open a Dashboard.
- Click Edit (located in the top right corner). Note that the Edit button is only displayed if you are the Dashboard owner, or belong to a group with access to the Dashboard. See also Edit vs View modes.
- Click + Add Tile, and select Single Metric from the displayed options. Note that if you want to create a gauge tile, you can click Gauge or Single Metric (both options follow the same steps described below).
The Add Tile window is displayed. - Select the Tile Type:
Number The metric is displayed as per the example below:
Gauge The metric is displayed as per the example below:
- Add measures and expressions:
- In the Simple tab, select the relevant measure.
- In the Advanced tab, create an expression; for further information, see Metric Expressions.
Note that you can also click the icon to the right of the Simple and Advanced tabs to perform additional actions:
- Select Clear Expression Tree to remove all the displayed measures and dimensions.
- Select Show in Metric Explorer to open the selected metrics in the Metric Explorer.
- Click the Show Composites toggle switch to display/hide composite metrics.
- If you selected Number in Step 4, select the layout of your tile in the Display Options area.
- Select the unit to be displayed.
- Click the Decimals option switch to display the measure in decimal form.
- Click the Abbreviate option switch to display an abbreviated form of the measure - e.g. Change 514,187 to 514K.
- Click the Show Measure option switch to display the measure.
- Click the Show Graph option switch to display the graph.
- In the What to display in case there is no value text box, enter the text you want to display when there are no values available for a selected measure.
- If you selected Gauge in Step 4, select the layout of your tile in the Value Options, Gauge Options, and Thresholds areas.
- Value Options:

- Select the unit to be displayed.
- Click the Decimals option switch to display the measure in decimal form.
- In the What to display in case there is no value text box, enter the text you want to display when there are no values available for a selected measure.

- Define a minimum and maximum scale value (by default, this is automatically defined).
- Click the Show Measure option switch to display the measure.
- Click the Show Value Labels option switch to display value labels on the gauge.

- Thresholds:

- Enter a base threshold to show on the gauge. You can select a color for the threshold, and also add additional thresholds. This is useful if you want to create "Good", "Not so good" and "Bad" categories for your gauge.
The example below shows a gauge tile with thresholds:

- Value Options:
- Click Save tile.
- Click Save Dashboard to save your tile to the Dashboard.
Customizing Dashboard single metric tiles
You can edit and customize an existing Dashboard single metric tile according to your requirements.
- Open the relevant Dashboard.
- On the relevant tile, click the Settings icon and then select Edit Tile.
You can also duplicate the tile by selecting Duplicate (you can select to duplicate the tile on this Dashboard or another Dashboard), create an alert by selecting Create Alert (add an alert name in the displayed window), or delete the tile by selecting Delete Tile. You can also click Show in Metric Explorer to view the selected measures in the Metric Explorer, and Export to CSV. - In the displayed Edit Tile window, customize the settings as required. Refer to the Creating a new Dashboard single metric tile section for details.
- Click Save Dashboard to implement your changes to the Dashboard.
