Creating an Anomaly Alert

To set an alert for an Anomaly:

  1. Click the Alerts tab and then click the New button.
  2. In the Metrics row, click Selected Metrics or Right_chevron_icon.icoto open the metrics definition dialog box. To define metrics see Metric Expressions Workflow.
  3. In the Alerts Settings row, click Define Metrics First or Right_chevron_icon.ico to open the Alerts Settings window.
  4. In the Alert Type drop-down list, select  Anomaly.
  5. Slide the Significance and Min Duration bars as needed.
  6. As an optional condition to the Significance and Min Duration triggers, set the Min Delta value from the normal range. Type the minimum delta value and select the unit:
    • If Min Delta is set to Absolute, an alert is triggered when the absolute delta is greater than the specified Min Delta.
    • If Min Delta is set to %, an alert is triggered when the percent delta is greater than the specified Min Delta.

Note: All the metric's conditions set in the Alert Settings panel must be met for an Alert to be triggered
  7. Select the metric data bucket Time Scale.
    • 1 Minute
    • 5 Minutes
    • 1 Hour
    • 1 Day
Note: The Time Scale is span of time for which metrics are aggregated. Anodot aggregates metrics into 1 minute, 5 minutes, 1 hour, and 1 day intervals. Anodot also computes anomalies on each time scale independently. When viewing metrics in dashboards or the metrics tab, Anodot automatically selects the viewing time scale based on the Time Range selected. The time scale is marked with Auto. This setting can be overwritten.

  8. Select the Direction which you want to be alerted on in case of an anomaly: Up orDown or (default is both Up and Down).
  9. Optional: add additional condition(s) to trigger an alert with the Upper and/or Lower thresholds:
    • An alert is triggered if the metric is in an anomaly and its value exceeds the Upper or Lower Threshold. For example:
      • When the Upper Threshold is set at 1000 AND the metric is in an anomaly above the normal range (Direction is UP), an alert is triggered if the value of the metric is greater than 1000.
      • When the Lower Threshold is set at 20 AND the metric is in an anomaly below the normal range (Direction is Down), an alert is triggered if the value of the metric is smaller than 20.
  10. Optional: If in addition you want Anodot to alert you that the selected metrics are not sending data:
    • Click the No Data toggle
      .
    • Select a time unit [Minutes/Hours/Days] from the drop-down menu.
    • Hover under No Data for at least to select a time value using the up-down scroller.

11. Optional: To display pre-defined Events which correlate to Anomaly Alerts, click the Events toggle.

The Events Filter panel is displayed. Use the Filter panel to select the Events which you want to correlate with the Alert.

To view, filter and search Events, see Viewing Events in Dashboards.

Note: To include Events in Alerts notifications, the Events toggle must be switched ON .
